Sedan’s nameplate has interesting nicknames among people, and the same can be said about Tesla’s cars. For instance, last year’s update of the Model 3 sedan was codenamed as “Highland” in house. Whereas, the Model Y overtook to become the best selling car on a global level in 2023, with sales reaching and exceeding 1.2 million units.
Now it is time to see the first exploits of the highly anticipated update to the Model Y, and it has happened in China. Despite the fact that elements in the photos are in another language, the version to be released to the United States will be the same.
Tesla Model Y Juniper: Notable Upgrades
The Model Y Juniper that Tesla has in development has a series of updates similar to the changes made to the Model 3. These are small upgrades for a more premium experience that will further strengthen the brand following the success of Model 3’s.
- Rear-Seat Touchscreen: The new Model Y also has the Model 3’s rear seat screen which displays Netflix, games and even climate control.
- Heated Seats: Standard heated rear seats with enhanced heating, heated front seats and heating steering wheel for comfort.
- Upgraded Steering Wheel: You find that while before there were stalks which held turn signals and head lights buttons, they are now found on the steering wheel .
- Touchscreen Transmission Controls: An innovation that has been introduced on the Model 3 which includes screen based transmission and overhead touch sensitive buttons.

Tesla Model Y Juniper: Exterior Design and Features
The exterior of the Tesla Model Y Juniper looks rather different from the Model 3 Highland, replicating more features of the Cybertruck. The exterior of the Model Y Juniper is a significant departure from the prior generation, and thus offers a new look on the Tesla design language.
- Full-Width Front Headlight & Running Light: Front headlight and running light: For the Model Y Juniper, this innovation creates a full-width car component which transforms the exterior into a more modern look.
- Fog Lights Placement: Fog lights are perfectly placed below the front lighting elements, this makes the design more integrated.
- Thin Full-Width Taillight: At the rear, there is a slim full-width taillight like the Robotaxi, C-formed elements evoking the Model 3.
- Rounded Roofline: The roof is also rounded like the existing model; this feature is also going to be retained in the new Model Y.
- Cybertruck-Inspired Elements: Subtle cues from the Cybertruck are applied to its exterior and interior, which means that the Model Y Juniper has a more high-tech design.
As for batteries, motors, or driving range of the Model Y Juniper for the US market, there is no information available at the moment while the company is expected to follow improvements on efficiency in the same ways as with the Model 3 updates while adding improvements to the cars’ aerodynamics simply with the tires. But substantial gains in range are not going to be.
